Crisis Communication

Working in conjunction with Emergency Operations Center, University Police, and Risk Management and Safety Services, Strategic Communications is responsible for communicating with the campus community and the public during critical or emergency situations. This communication occurs via the emergency notification system, official university social media accounts, the SSU home page and the media.

University Police is responsible for responding to the emergency itself. Types of major emergencies and crises could include one or more of the following conditions:





Strategic Communications has a crisis communications team that responds and informs in the event of a campus emergency.

The Crisis Communications Team, working in conjunction with University Police or the Emergency Operations Center, will use multiple means to reach the campus community with information.

The campus community should avoid contacting University Police for information during an emergency as they will be dealing with the safety of the campus community.
